The Horticulture Center opens its doors this weekend and reveal a summer themed oasis filled with lush green plants, a giant sand box, food trucks, and a beer garden. For nine days, “Getaway at the Greenhouse” transforms the Center into a respite from the uncertain winter weather.
The 20,000 square foot space will be broken into five separate “rooms” with different themes. We listed them below.
The Jungle – Traveling zoo, Kids Rock DJ, live music, face painting, balloon artists, movie night
The Beach – Oversized sandbox for an indoor beach escape
The Lawn – Green grass for lounging and lawn games
The Lounge – A Moroccan-themed area with unique furniture
The Midway – Local food truck vendors and cash bar with craft beers, wine, and handcrafted cocktails
The hours vary during the week. If you want to stop in for lunch on a weekday, you can bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages until 3pm. Monday and Tuesday are limited to BYO picnic from 9am to 3pm, but the rest of the days have food and drink available for purchase during certain hours. West Fairmount Park is beautiful this time of year, but the Center offers a special break from the cold. “The Horticulture Center is one of the most attractive enclosed spaces in the park system. It is the perfect location to host a variety of fun indoor programming during the cold months,” said Parks & Recreation Commissioner Kathryn Ott Lovell. “I am so excited to launch the ‘Getaway at the Greenhouse’ program at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center in West Fairmount Park.”
The Horticultural Center is located near the Parkside neighborhood. Download the GoPhillyGo Android app or save the GoPhillyGo mobile site to your iPhone to get to the Horticulture Center and other nearby destinations. Click here for directions to the Horticulture Center.
