Author Talk: Thomas Heinrich

Tue Jan 26
6pm7pm

This is a virtual event.

Join Independence Seaport Museum and author Thomas Heinrich for a discussion on his new book, Warship Builders: An Industrial History of U.S. Naval Shipbuilding, 1922-1945 (Annapolis, MD: Naval Institute Press, 2020).The book highlights Philadelphia-area shipbuilders and the key role they played in World War II naval shipbuilding. The Navy Yard constructed Iowa-class battleships, New York Ship in Camden, NJ, specialized in cruisers and aircraft carriers, and Cramp Shipbuilding delivered cruisers and submarines.

Our talk will investigate the achievements of and challenges confronting shipfitters, machinists, and managers in the Delaware Valley during the construction of a colossal armada that fought in all corners of the globe.

We are encouraging participants to this FREE event to read the book prior to joining us to ensure a lively conversation.  For the holiday season Naval Institute Press is offering a special price on this new release.  Click here to purchase a copy.
